Humans evolved with the innate tendency to immerse themselves in natural environments. Jeff Kepler, Chloe Lewis, and Pat Gephart set out to self document how they fill this need through splitboarding. Join this crew as they travel through powder filled slopes and steep mountains to snowboard in their favorite natural places in their film, “Biophilia”.
This is my season edit from the 19/20 season. Since I had knee surgery in November, I did not think I was going to be able to ride for the entire season. Luckily, I was able to rehab quick enough that I began filming in March. Unfortunately, lockdowns due to the pandemic occurred shortly after I began filming, which forced me to ride zones that were within ten miles of my home. Overall, I am thankful for all of the great partners and cinematographers that helped to make this edit possible.

In this video, I give an overview of how to set up my Weston Range Splitboard with Spark R&D Bindings. This video explains how to find your stance width, attach touring brackets, mount pucks, and center your boot in the binding. The song is “Mustache Music”, courtesy of Vanaken Bass.
Despite starting the season late due to injury, I enjoyed great turns and progressed my splitboarding and mountaineering skills. Fortunately, I was invited to join the Weston Team on a trip to Japan, and we successfully climbed and snowboarded Mount Yotei. In early April, the inaugural Front Range Splitfest hosted an event where we indulged in stable powder, and we enjoyed many excellent splitboard laps and met many new friends. Finally, excellent snowfall and cold temps in Colorado allowed me to complete technical splitboard lines into the late spring. Throughout the season, I focused on riding lines regular and switch to improve my technical skills on my Weston Range Splitboard. Thank you Weston, Purl Wax, Underground Snowboards, Mountain Outfitters Breck, Spark R&D, and everyone else that helped make last season a success.

The 2018/2019 season was full of powder days. In February, I went splitboarding with some friends in Summit County, and we were rewarded with surfy pow turns. At the top of my line, I spooked a grouse out of the snow and it startled me. Luckily, I was able to enjoy some of the best powder turns I had this season. Days like this prove that life is worth living.
On April 19, 2018, Pat Gephart and I summited Atlantic Peak and snowboarded down the V Couloirs. This was just over a week before my ankle surgery, and I was thankful to have such a great adventure before going under the knife. We were lucky to have great weather and snow conditions on this line. Overall, this was one of the highlights from the 2017/2018 season.
In early March, I visited Bozeman with Scott Strevey and Weston Snowboards for the second annual Bozeman Splitfest. This video shows the lines we rode throughout the weekend. Thank you Spark R&D, Map Brewing, World Boards, Weston Snowboards, and all the other sponsors for an amazing event. I’m excited to return again next season.
Patrick Gephart and I climbed and snowboarded a fun line in the 10 Mile Canyon last spring. This short video documents our day.
The springtime in Colorado is often the snowiest. This short edit shows a few laps from Arapahoe Basin, in May. It was a great day with great friends, minimal crowds, and endless fresh lines. I am excited to ride the entire season and experience more pow days like this. All in all, “The Legend” delivered.
